Tutu đã đóng góp vào lãnh vực tâm lý xã hội. Các bài viết của ông đăng trên tạp chí "Greater Good" do Greater Good Science Center của Đại học California tại Berkeley xuất bản. Các đóng góp của ông trong đó có việc giải thích nghiên cứu khoa học tận gốc rễ của lòng từ bi, lòng vị tha, và các mối quan hệ hòa bình của con người.
